For the first time Quaid e Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah’s car Rolls Royce Silver Ghost (1924), owned & maintained by Karim Chappra, businessman from Karachi is displayed in Kuwait Concours d’Elegence – 2012. It is first time in the history of Pakistan that Muhammad Ali Jinnah’s car is displayed internationally. Concours d’Elegance is an automobile competition that judges the designs and styles of elegant, sumptuous classic cars. It started in Paris in the 1920s, the period just after “Belle Epoque.” At that time, Paris, a city full of art and hedonism, became the world’s cultural capital. In the up-scale social Parisian circles, people became infatuated with the extravagance of automobiles, the forefront of all the latest technologies. Kuwait Concours d’Elegance is in the Italian style as are many revived Concours d’Elegance held since 1980s.
Historical significance: The car that Jinnah, who was to shortly become the first governor general of Pakistan, rode in had been custom made for his associate, the Nawab of Bhawalpur. “After the death of Nawab, the car was locked in his palace for 46 years, while his heirs battled it out in court.
The car is a 1924 Rolls-Royce Silver Ghost Tourer that the Father of the Pakistani Nation Muhammed Ali Jinnah, and Lord Mountbatten, the last viceroy of British India, rode in on their way to sign the declaration of independence on August 14, 1947.
